VDL’s largest fleet of electric buses to date will be operational in Oslo from January 2022. With 102 Citeas, VDL is contributing to an important objective of the Norwegian capital: by 2028, public transport must be emission free. The 83 Citeas SLFA-180 Electric and 19 SLF-120 Electric will cover approximately 7 million clean kilometres each year.

VDL Groep strengthens its position as an industrial partner in electronics. The family business with its head office in Eindhoven has taken over tbp electronics. tbp’s core activities involve assembly and production services of electronics for, among others, the industrial, medical and telecommunications sectors, all important sectors in which VDL is already active.

After more than 36 years of service, Theo Toussaint will retire on 1 January 2021. Toussaint (67) will continue to be affiliated with VDL Groep.

VDL Nedcar will not receive a follow-up order for the new MINI Countryman from BMW Group for the longer term. Due to the corona pandemic and disruptive developments, BMW has decided to produce the successor model of the current MINI Countryman in house. 

VDL Groep strengthens its position in the agricultural sector. The industrial family business with its head office in Eindhoven has taken over Jansen Poultry Equipment. JPE is one of the world's largest manufacturers of high-quality poultry systems for the laying, breeding and broiler sectors. The profitable family business from Barneveld (Province of Gelderland) has about 125 employees and its 2019 annual turnover was more than 50 million euros.

At VDL Nedcar, we make MINIs every day. But sometimes we deviate us from the regular production process and make an exception. This special MINI Countryman certainly belongs in the list of exclusive cars. This is only a half of a MINI for Maastricht UMC+.

VDL Groep and Royal DSM today announce the start of a 50/50 joint venture (JV) that will establish production of medical facemasks and the first permanent production of critical facemask components in the Netherlands. The new joint venture, Dutch PPE Solutions, is expected to create employment for dozens of people in Helmond and Geleen, the Netherlands.

The impact of the coronavirus crisis has not passed VDL Groep by over the past six months. In the first half of 2020, both revenue and profit of this industrial family business headquartered in Eindhoven were down on the same period last year. On a positive note, the strategy of spreading risk through diversification has led to VDL posting a profit for the first half of 2020. The coronavirus crisis has mainly hit the automotive industry hard, while other sectors such as high-tech, infrastructure, food, and health have borne less of the brunt of the crisis. Given that market demand is picking up, there is confidence for the second half of 2020.

For VDL Groep, 2019 was a challenging year in which we saw our turnover and profit fall for the first time since the crisis year 2009. Nevertheless, in view of the market conditions, we look back on 2019 with satisfaction. Below is a summary of some of the important events of 2019:

The Deutsche Bahn (DB) Medibuses, built by VDL Bus & Coach, are currently being used in a large-scale study by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) into the spread of COVID-19 in Germany. By using the Medibuses, researchers and physicians have access to high-quality laboratory environments, which can also be flexibly deployed in different locations.

Improvements in the charging infrastructure have allowed the DAF CF Electric VDL E-Power, which DAF Trucks and VDL Groep developed together, to make huge strides forward. By using a clever recharging technology, this electric truck is capable of driving upwards of 300 kilometres a day. Recharging the battery to full capacity only takes half an hour, which means the vehicle can be fully integrated into the operation without any additional waiting time for the driver, and journey schedules can be optimised.
